President Lincoln Comes to Gettsyburg, April 7, 2018
Join the guests of the Inns of the Gettysburg Area for a day of Civil War history with a guided tour of the National Cemetery, followed by an evening at the Dobbin House restaurant.
After dinner, President Lincoln who is portrayed by Robert Costello and General Grant, portrayed by Larry Clowers will present a program titled “President Lincoln’s final meeting with General Grant”. Both men are veteran living historians who have traveled extensively presenting their first person impression of these famous men. In 2013 USA Today wrote that Costello “maintains the illusion that Lincoln is right here, right now.”
The cemetery tour will begin at 1 PM with Licensed Guide Roy Frampton leading us and telling the story of President Lincoln’s visit on November 19, 1863 to deliver the now famous Gettysburg Address. Years ago Roy located the spot where the President’s podium was erected. Unfortunately it is just outside the cemetery fence in the private Evergreen Cemetery.
At 6:30 we will meet at the Dobbin House for a meet and greet with the President and General Grant who will be arriving in a horse drawn carriage. The President and Mrs. Lincoln plus General and Julia Grant will circulate among the diners during dinner and then we will hear the two gentlemen as they remark on their last meeting.
