The Swope Manor Bed and Breakfast and Places Through Time Living History will host three first person living history programs this summer. Living Historian Myra Reichart will present "We believed they would never come, " the stories of the Gettysburg civilians and their lives before, during and after the battle. Reichart noted that when the armies marched away from Gettysburg in July 1863, they left behind a community in shambles and more than 51,000 killed, wounded and missing soldiers. The little town of 2,400 had been changed forever. "This program allows participants to experience this most pivotal battle of America’s Civil War as if they were walking in the footsteps of the Gettysburg civilians. By hearing their thoughts and words, they will share the experience of the people whose once beautiful town became a hotly contested battlefield.”
Dates for the programs are June 27, July 11, and Aug. 29, and all programs begin at 8 p.m. Admission to the Gettysburg by lantern Courtyard Programs is $10 for adults and $7 under ten years old. Light refreshment will be served. Reservations are recommended and can be made by phone at 717-398-2684 or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.-2684 or via email at email@example.com at 717-398-2684 or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
